German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan's journey at the Etihad has been a rather curious one.
Gundogan signed for Manchester City back in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund and quickly became an integral member of the destructive Pep Guardiola side that won every trophy on offer, even captaining them to a treble in the 2022-23 season.
Having spent seven seasons in Manchester, Gundogan made a decision to embark on a new venture as he signed for LaLiga side Barcelona, only to then return to the Etihad just a season later on a free transfer.

Top earners at Manchester City
Despite his high wages at City, Gundogan misses out on a spot in the top five, sitting in seventh, just behind the likes of Omar Marmoush and John Stones.
Sitting comfortably at the top of City's wage bill is Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, followed by Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish.
At number four is Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, who is on identical wages with Grealish.
